The people in military uniform walking through our cities are not our enemy. They are sons, daughters, siblings, and parents — human beings caught in a system that doesn’t give them the freedom to walk away. They are being deployed into American streets, not by choice, but by command. Used as tools by an administration that sees force as a solution. And while some may say, “They chose this,” the truth is: many enlisted long before this chaos began. Before the protests. Before the crackdowns. Before the orders to stand against civilians. Military contracts are binding. Quitting isn’t just walking away — it’s AWOL, a federal offense that can lead to imprisonment. They are not free agents. They are bound by duty, law, and fear. So when you see them in uniform, remember: They may be just as conflicted, just as trapped, just as heartbroken as you are. Don’t confuse the uniform with the intent. Don’t let the system turn us against each other. The real enemy is the machine that pits citizen against citizen, and calls it order.
